Bout of Books: Day Three!

Bout of Books

» Day Three Recap: «

What I read:

The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan

Thoughts on the book so far:

The Battle of the Labyrinth is probably the book I remember the least from in the series, so it is nice to pick it up again and reintroduce myself to the adventures that take place within its pages. I'm so close to the end of rereading the series now, it's crazy. Makes me want to go back and do it over again!

Bout of Books 16: Top Five

Bout of Books

Today's challenge is to pick five of our favorite... something. And because it's a read-a-thon, that something has to be book related! Thought it's probably a tad boring, I have decided to list five of my all-time favorite books (which was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be).

5. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein: I love the adventure in this book, and how an ordinary, boring man can stumble into greatness just by taking that first step out his front door. I found it to be a very inspiring read and I fully enjoyed the eclectic cast of characters and all of the trouble they got into throughout their journey. I pick this book up whenever I am sad or in a slump, and it never fails to make me happy.

4. Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan: Though I love the entire series, The Lightning Thief was where Percy's adventure began, and I enjoy going back to it again and again. I love how young, innocent and naive everyone is in this book, particularly in comparison to the later books/series, and I find something extremely relaxing about that. Also, the humor and wit is my favorite.

3. The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak: I have only ever read this once, but what an amazing book! I had never really taken an interest in historical fiction before, but reading The Book Thief has turned me on to an entire new genre. I love how heartbreaking and real it is because it made me connect to the characters in a really personal way.

2. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: Full of magic, love and loss, The Night Circus reminds me a lot of Harry Potter; I become so immersed in the story that I often forget I am reading a book because everything seems so vivid and real. It is an amazing book. I love the characters, the story and the heart of it.

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling: Obviously, I love each book in the series for a plethora of different reasons, but I feel like The Sorcerer's Stone is my favorite because it was the very first book and the one that started my love for Harry Potter, and I read it at least once a year, simply because I enjoy going back to Harry's first ever year at Hogwarts and experiencing the magic and wonder all over again. To me, this first book is like home; I feel safe and experience severe nostalgia whenever I pick it up.

Bout of Books

Today's Bout of Books challenge is "MASH," hosted by Rocky Top Real Talk! For this, we are playing a game of M.A.S.H with a bookish twist.

I did all of this on paper but, because the pictures didn't turn out the greatest, I'll just go ahead and list everything here:

 My final results are:

I live in a shack at Hogwarts (Hagrid's hut, maybe?), am married to Augustus Waters (I mean.... he's no Will Herondale, but is still pretty awesome), have no kids, am unemployed (Yikes. Though, maybe Dumbledore could hook me up with a teaching position or something), travel around on a broomstick (yes, please!), have a Pandora for a pet and am best friends with Magnus Bane.

Wowza.

Bout of Books 10: Day three

☆☆☆☆

On day three, I finished reading The Unbound by Victoria Schwab. And it. Was. FABULOUS.

I completed by first book! Hopefully I can manage another 1-2 before the read-a-thon's end. In the meantime, I think my stride/reading are progressing nicely - albeit, a little average.

» Progress...

Completed The Unbound by Victoria Schwab (total books = 1)
Read for about 3.5 hours (total = 9.5)
Read 119 pages (total = 357)
Completed the Book Pairings challenge at My Overstuffed Shelves

» Challenges...
Book Pairings

For this challenge, we were asked to pair a book with something that compliments it; whether it be another book, a physical object, food, drink, a person, or place. I chose my current read, The Unbound. Here is my entry:

"This is the kind of book you enjoy whilst cocooned within a blanket, sipping some sort of hot drink. It is eerie and beautiful, and those are always great on a cold day (which, here in Ohio, we are still experiencing...)."
. . . .

See you on day four!

Bout of Books 9.0: Day three

× On day three I was (re)reading....

Author: J.K. Rowling
Series: Harry Potter #1
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Release Date: January 1, 1997
Pages: 309
Format: Paperback
Average Rating: 4.37

× Day Three Progress:

Began reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
Read for: 4.5 hours (Total = 13)
Read 163 pages (Total = 520)
Completed the Introduce Someone to Your Favorite Genre challenge at Doing Dewey

» Introduce Someone To Your Favorite Genre Challenge:

For this challenge, we were asked to introduce the other BoB participants to a few books from our favorite genre; as a way to spread the love and offer up some new reads for those that were interested. Here was my response:

"I do not have a specific genre in mind, but I really love books that are the perfect blend of action and romance; where the character’s feelings do not take away from the crazy plot, but add to it. I love them because, if you are someone like I am, you are always on the look-out for a bunch of kick-butt, fast-paced action scenes with a little fluff mixed in for good measure. A few books that I have stumbled upon within the last year that meet these requirements are:
Percy Jackson & The Olympians by Rick Riordan, The Maze Runner by James Dashner, the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness, Across the Universe by Beth Revis, Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken and The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey."
 . . . .

And there you have it. See you on day four!

Bout of Books 8.0: Day Three

No, reader, you are not hallucinating; Sam completed her first BoB read!

I began Shades of Earth on Monday, day one of the Read-A-Thon, and finally, finally finished it on Wednesday; day three. And Ho-ly freaking moly, this book was AMAZING. I've never really been "in love" with the Sci Fi genre, so I was a bit reluctant to pick this series up at first, simply because I was not entirely sure I would enjoy it. But oh, man, am I glad that I did, because it definitely deserves ALL of the hype! Five stars from me.
