March Rewind

» This month I.... «

Celebrated my brother's 18th birthday.

Got contacts!

Took my rabbit, Oliver, in to be neutered. This was an extremely difficult decision, because the last rabbit I took in ended up dying from the anesthesia, but Oliver came out of the surgery okay and is back to his perky, ornery self!

Took my driver's exam. I passed the driving part, but failed maneuverability, even though I had done it perfectly a hundred times during practice. Thanks, anxiety... Here's to hoping next month's Rewind includes a comment saying I've passed!

I put off watching the final two movies for years because I didn't want the journey to end, but this month I finally decided to sit down and watch them! They were incredibly good and I cried a lot.

I also finally got around to watching Catching Fire and it's all I could think about this month.

Oh, man, the nostalgia. I used to watch this show all the time in high school; it's the perfect mixture of funny, sad and creepy. My sister recently bought a boxed set of the series and I have slowly been making my way through the episodes. They're just as good as I remember!

Teaser Tuesday [March 22]

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jenn of Books and a Beat. All you have to do is grab your current read, open to a random page, and share two teaser sentences (that don't give too much away).

This week's teaser is brought to you by a reread:

"If you are the son of Poseidon," Echidna hissed, "you would not fear water. Jump, Percy Jackson. Show me that water will not harm you. Jump and retrieve your sword. Prove your bloodline."

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

The Answer

That moment —
you know the one I'm talking about, right?
The one between sleep and awake when
suddenly,
you have a thought.
A perfect, simple little thought,
that exists on a plane untouched by the trials of life and hardship.
A thought to solve that problem
- the one that has been plaguing you all week -
a way to end world hunger,
to invent time travel,
meet a difficult goal.
To your exhausted mind, it is world changing,
life altering, problem-defying.
It is there, glaringly obvious at the front of your mind
for one, precious moment.
But, in the second
between one, slow blink and the next,
as your mind becomes aware of your body,
it disappears
or is attacked,
as they always are,
by logic and reason.
Conscious, the thought seems less like an answer
and more like a naive musing.
But, for that one moment,
it was powerful and hopeful,
and exactly what you were looking for,
and you spend the rest of your life
trying to get that feeling back.

February Rewind

» This month I.... «

Celebrated my mother's 52nd birthday.

Continued planning a novel, thought up a  new idea, and started working on that one instead. Sigh.

Became obsessed with Pintrest.

Bought a new rabbit!

Spent most of the month obsessing over the A Gathering of Shadows release.

The season finale is next week and I am NOT. READY.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1051220/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

The season finale for The Shannara Chronicles was a few days ago and stuck very true to the ending of the book series (as far as I know anyway - I haven't actually read them). However, it appears that there is a large possibility that the show will come back for another season. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and am looking forward to seeing how it diverts from the books during future episodes/seasons.

Guys. This show is so bad. I don't understand what happened. Everyone is acting out of character, actors are leaving, and this season has had practically zero redeeming qualities, in my opinion. UHG. Season two was so good; this season has just been a roller-coaster of crazy. And not in the good way.

https://www.pinterest.com/sambiina/As I've said, I have recently discovered Pinterest. I tried it out about a year ago and was too confused to look too much into it, but lately I've found that it's a great place for inspiration - both in life and writing. You can follow/find me here.

I heard about this technique from writer V.E. Schwab. She uses it to keep track of how many words she writes/edits, how many pages she reads, as well as other, every day activities. I've found it helpful to have a physical, visual way to see my progress!

Teaser Tuesday [March 1]

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jenn of A Daily Rhythm. All you have to do is grab your current read, open to a random page, and share two teaser sentences (that don't give too much away).

This week's teaser:

An instant later, the captain's door burst open, but the pirates were too late. She tossed the pluming taper into the room and heard footsteps stumble, and men cough, before the drugged smoke brought them down. Two down, thought Lila, stepping over their bodies. Thirteen to go.
